Cause of disruption on Swisscom Mobile's NATEL® network has been identified. The cause of the disruption on Swisscom Mobile's network last Friday, 27 July, was the combined effect of two serious technical faults. The disruption was triggered by a software error in a central computer system in Lausanne, then a second technical fault led to over-loading and subsequently to the failure of the automatic back-up system. The disruption started at midday last Friday and was eliminated on the same day by 22.30 by an interna-tional team working in close cooperation with the system suppliers. The mobile network has since been stable. Thorough analysis carried out during the past few days has con-firmed the effectiveness of the measures undertaken.
